monoscapes

A new series of landscape portraits exploring the boundaries of representation and reduction. Working in pure monochrome, these paintings investigate how far landscape can be deconstructed while retaining a sense of place. The focus is on painting the light—treating light not as illustration but as structure, form, and spatial logic.

Positioned somewhere between gesture, abstraction and photorealism, each work tests the tension between controlled mark-making and the incidental qualities of paint. The compositions examine movement within landscape: shifts in atmosphere, directional forces, and the underlying patterns that shape terrain.

Executed in Acrylic on Paper (A2, 420mm × 594mm), the series emphasises immediacy, materiality, and the discipline of working within strict limitations.
